Group Therapy
“People need people - for initial and continued survival, for socialization, for the pursuit of satisfaction. No one - not the dying, not the outcast, not the mighty - transcends the need for human contact.”
Group Counselling Offerings in Vancouver, BC & Online
As Irvin Yalom wrote, “The group becomes a microcosm of the world.” Within the safety of a small group, we begin to see ourselves more clearly — how we relate, protect, and connect. Whether the focus is on learning new skills, exploring patterns in relationships, or finding support through a shared experience, group therapy offers a powerful space for growth and connection.
In a group setting, healing happens through both understanding and experience. As we listen to others and share our own stories, we begin to recognize ourselves in one another. The group becomes a place to practice new ways of being — communicating openly, setting boundaries, receiving support — and to experience the relief of realizing we don’t have to do it all alone.
Group therapy can help you:
Feel less alone in your struggles and experiences
Learn tools for emotional regulation, communication, and connection
Develop insight into your patterns in relationships
Build confidence in expressing your thoughts and needs
Experience genuine support, empathy, and belonging
Group therapy can also be a cost-effective alternative to individual therapy
Each group has its own focus and rhythm, but all share a common intention: to bring people together in a safe, supportive space where healing and growth can unfold — through learning, reflection, and the power of human connection..
CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is the gold-standard, evidence-based treatment for chronic sleep difficulties. Research shows that CBT-I is as effective as sleep medication in the short term, and often more effective over time — helping people achieve lasting, natural sleep without dependence on medication.
CBT-I groups can help you feel less alone in your experience of insomnia and help to create a sense of accountability as you progress through the program.

Therapeutic Book Club
“Books are mirrors: you only see in them what you already have inside you.”
Group therapy can be intimidating. For some, coming together with a group of strangers online or in-person can feel energizing and exciting, and for others, it can be various degrees of terrifying. Cue books. Books, poetry, essays, and other forms of literature can take the pressure off the question: what the heck am I going to talk about? We talk about what we’ve read - our thoughts, how it moved us or how it disappointed us, and whether or not we are taking anything away. We find through literature and each other a shared sense of universality.
Therapeutic Book Clubs are 6-weeks long. Each club is centered around a theme or mental health concern. Each club will be given a weekly reading list. Sometimes we will spend the 6 weeks reading a book together, and other times, we will explore various forms of literature: essays, poems, or specific chapters related to our theme. We might explore books in the self-help genre, but sometimes we will search for meaning and answers in fiction, poetry, and essays written decades ago.
The details:

Upcoming Groups
Therapeutic Book Club: Living with Uncertainty
In a world that often feels unpredictable and heavy, many of us are carrying a quiet kind of grief or anxiety — about the future, about our place in it, and about how to keep living meaningfully amid uncertainty.
This book club offers a space to slow down and reflect together through literature, poetry, and conversation. Each meeting will explore themes of uncertainty, hope, belonging, and what it means to live with care and intention when the world feels uncertain.
When: January 2026; 6 weekly 90-minute sessions; day & time TBD
Where: In-person at 175 East Broadway
What: Each week we will read a poem, essay or chapter(s) and we will meet to discuss what we have read. The group will agree to a set of guidelines to maintain a supportive and respectful space, and members are encouraged (though not required) to bring their personal experiences to the group, in addition to their thoughts and reactions to what we have read.
Why: The goal of the group is to find connection and a sense of universality through the exploration of books and other forms of literature. The hope is members walk away from the group feeling less alone in their uncertainty, and perhaps with some new perspectives or ideas to bring with them.
Who: This group is for all ages. A brief screening call is required that will ensure the group is a good fit and where you will have a chance to ask any questions. The group is hosted by Casey Armstrong, RCC who has experience facilitating therapeutic groups and book clubs.
Next steps: If you are interested, please book a 15-minute Group Therapy Consult Call via the JaneApp or fill out the form below if you’d like to connect via email.
